ABOUT

Cara Galdies is an illustrator, storyteller and creative from Buckinghamshire, UK. Her work concentrates on narratives derived from nature, mediaeval history, and folklore.

In her practice, Cara values being inspired by her surroundings, and finding whimsy in the everyday aspects of life. Escapism and fantasy are key themes to her practice, and she is creatively driven by imagination, intuition and possibility.

From comics, to book covers, and zines, Cara’s practice is centred around sequential and narrative artwork. Cara is actively interested in exploring the way in which stories have been shaped through image throughout history, and the fascinating interplay between text, image, author and community.

Cara gravitates towards mixed media outcomes, and enjoys the experimental process of letting differing mediums bring out the best in each other. Interactions with light are heavily featured motifs in her artwork, along with trees and birds.

Her work is generally created for those who are comfortable with escaping to the past, the weird and the wonderful.

She studied at Arts University Plymouth, completing a BA in Illustration.
